Philip Carter

Philip specialises in Private Client matters, in particular drafting wills, administering estates and trusts, tax planning,
deputyships
under the Court of Protection, drawing and administering powers of attorney and resealing foreign grants of probate in this country. He is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP) and the Probate Section of the Law Society.
After obtaining his degree at Exeter University he was articled to Smiles & Co. (later amalgamated to become Simmonds Church Smiles) and became a partner in 1989

Ian Bowyer
Partner, Joint Head of Department
Ian is a fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and became a Partner in the Private Client team on 1st October 2009.
He has extensive knowledge of on-shore trusts and probate work and the taxation issues relating to them. Ian deals with complex high value estates including heritage property, will drafting and tax planning.
Ian attended Simon Langton Grammar School before joining Gregory Rowcliffe Milners in 1987. He qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1995.
Ian's interests include cricket, golf and Leeds United FC.

Chris Barber
Associate Solicitor
Chris is an Associate and a member of our Private Client team.
In addition to his trust and probate work, Chris has expertise in contentious and non contentious property work as well as experience of insolvency matters and other aspects of civil litigation; in particular Chris has represented professional colleagues in numerous appeals to the Privy Council from New Zealand and other Commonwealth or former Commonwealth jurisdictions.
Chris started his career in 1968 with the firm of Wray Smith & Co, based in the Temple. He worked principally in their litigation department, becoming a partner there in 1979. Wray Smith & Co merged with Simmonds Church Smiles in 1995 and the firm of Simmonds Church Smiles merged with Gregory Rowcliffe Milners in 1999.

Michael Parnell-King
Consultant
He specialises in onshore and off shore estate/tax planning for UK and foreign domiciled clients. He has connections with experts in a great many foreign jurisdictions with whom he liaises, when necessary. He also has considerable experience in all fields of private client work.
Before joining the firm Michael was a partner of Poole & Co in the West Country specialising in Tax and Trusts for high net worth clients and Agricultural Property. He joined Gregory Rowcliffe Milners in 1999.
Michael has many interests including sailing, tennis and classic cars.

Olivia Cooper
Assistant Solicitor
Olivia is an Assistant Solicitor in the Private Client Team.
Her areas of expertise include domestic and cross-border testamentary and life time tax planning; administering estates, Court of Protection matters and advising on and drafting of Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Olivia is a keen linguist and speaks both French and Italian having studied for her first degree in Surrey and Paris.
Her interests are varied and include supporting Kent Cricket Club and Wasps Rugby Club, visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum as often as possible and collecting Martin Hardy watercolours and drypoints.

Muna Jallow
Assistant Solicitor
Muna is an Assistant Solicitor in the Private Client Team. Her areas of expertise include administering estates and trusts, tax planning, resealing foreign grants of probate in this country and advising on Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyships. Muna grew up in Austria and took her Abitur at the BG Dornbirn. She obtained her LLB from University College London having spent one year of her studies at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich.
Muna qualified in September 2008 and is a member of the British German Jurists Association

Andrew Haswell
Administration Assistant
Andrew works within the trust and probate section of the Private Client team. He deals with deeds and investments record keeping, including archive enquiries and computer database recording,
He was educated at Forest Hill Comprehensive School for Boys and joined the firm in July 1969.

Francesca Vella
Trust Manager
Francesca joined GRM in February 2008, shortly after moving to the UK from Malta where she had worked for Blevins Franks International and subsequently for Bentley Trust Limited assisting in the administration of offshore Trusts and Companies.
Her role at GRM involves the day-to-day administration of Trusts, including the preparation of Trust Accounts and Tax Returns.
In her free time she enjoys travelling, singing and attending rock concerts.
